Private sewers now adopted

The responsibility for maintance of most shared sewers passed to the local sewerage company on 1st October 2011.

Private sewers and lateral drains that are shared with another person’s property, or run through another person’s land, have now become the responsibility of the local water and sewerage company.

You will remain responsible for the sections of pipe between your property and the adopted sewer or drain.
